The Constitution class starships featured an immense shuttlebay that was larger than any ship in the heavy cruiser type if the time. With an overall deck length of 38 meters, it could easily launch and house its compliment of seven Mk 12c shuttlecraft in addition to any other small fighters or shuttles which needded to be docked in it at any given time. This proved to be a very valuable feature for the ship once more specialized shuttles were developed, such as the Aquatic shuttlecraft, allowing the Constitution to further expand its exploration capabilities.

The hangar deck of the Constitution featured a pair of observation corridors on either side of the bay, allowing people to watch as shuttles arrive and depart without the use of pressure suits. The observation corridors also had portals on the outer hull of the ship for viewing space outside.
